Ralph does a lot of work with holgas, but this one is part of his Digital Goodness set.

The Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Mears, Michigan is a Michigan State Park Off-Road Vehicle Area, so if you’re in the “driving around on sand” mood, this is the place. If you’r in the “Wikipedia editing” mood, head over to Wikipedia and edit the Silver Lake State Park (Michigan) article!

SoPhast writes: From the last night I went out to *shoot* the moon. Nuthin’ like a little bit of night magic.

To which I reply AAAAAAAAAAAAMAZIN! You have to view this big old moon bigger.

This photo from Kirk Park, Grand Haven, is part of a set of photos of Michigan beaches & shoreline dunes. In addition to the fact that it’s a great photo, we’re featuring it because we have an in-depth article on Absolute Michigan today titled Protecting Lake Michigan’s Sand Dunes that explores the threats facing Lake Michigan’s geologically unique sand dunes.

Central Lake, Michigan … all week long in 1973

I guess we’ll continue yesterday’s “when we were younger than we are now” theme with today’s pic.

The photo is one of a large set that reminded me of a recent conversation with a friend who told me we can’t have any fun anymore – the world moves too fast and our work and free time are all tied together with email and cell phones and beeping reminders (or something like that). I don’t know if he’s right or not and I’m curious to know what you think so feel free to comment! (or just skip the comment and head out to do something fun and unwired). Click the Dune Ride picture to view Central Lake, MI 1970s … and some other parts of northern Michigan.

All Alone on the Silver Lake Dunes

Untitled, originally uploaded by raemarie.

raemarie writes:
I was really looking forward to the sun going down. But I was so depressed, I just drove home. On the expressway. No backroads. That’s how bad it was.

This is just one photo from a great photo set called “The day the d70 died.” taken in and around the Silver Lake Dunes.

It’s a depressing moment when a photographer’s camera ceases to function. You get to know the camera’s quirks and it can become a trusted companion.

Here’s hoping that raemarie is shooting again … soon.
