2006 Michigan State Fair

The annual Michigan State Fair continues through September 4. The state fairgrounds are located in southeast Michigan at the corner of Eight Mile Road and Woodward Avenue in Detroit – two miles from I-75, three miles from I-696, and eight miles from I-94.

The motion and color in the photo above is incredible but this one really captures the overall vibe of the Fair.

This photo of the Hotel Eddystone serves as the poster for Bobby Alcott’s show tomorrow night (Friday, Aug 18) at Karras Bros. Tavern in Detroit. The show is presented by Exposure.Detroit, a Motor City based photographer’s group that is part of the larger Exposure.Network.

You can get all the show details by clicking the poster below and I also encourage you to check out this interview with Bobby and this set of photos of the Hotel Eddystone. As a note to people who are sad that such a glorious building has fallen into such a state, the hotel is currently being renovated.

CAVE CANEM writes As a child, I was a big fan of those poorly lit, out of focus images in my Viewmaster toy. I used to just love my Boblo Island and 3d Casper Discs, I could stare at them for hours.

This is part of a great set of photos of people at Riverworks in Detroit and he notes that the photo is best viewed from childhood.

Ryan says that this is a shot of Comerica Park from the top of the abandoned David Whitney Building in downtown Detroit. He desaturated the areas around the stadium to give the structure some pop.

Of the above photo, Chris Clayson writes We’ll take ripples over mirrors any day. If you view it big you will see that the 2nd boat is well on its way to being becalmed.

This photo is part of a set that seeks to provide on boat’s perspective (Unplugged of Port Sanilac) of racing in the Port Huron to Mackinac, one of Michigan’s two annual long distance sailing races (the other being the Chicago to Mackinac Race).
