The Detroit Pistons face the Boston Celtics at 3pm today at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. USA Today shares that this will be the NBA’s first-ever nationally broadcast opening-day tripleheader, and it’s a measure of the Pistons’ return to the top ranks of the NBA that they’re the opening tip!

The matinee in Detroit will feature “College Gameday-style activations,” a “Blue Carpet” experience, a marching band rendition of “Roundball Rock” and other special festivities planned around Little Caesars Arena and downtown Detroit throughout the day. The afternoon game is an experiment conceived by the NBA and NBC entering Year 2 of their massive 11-year, $27-billion media rights partnership, with the goal of turning opening night into an all-day event.

…”Detroit raised their hand and was all-in from Day One,” he (NBC Sports Executive Vice President Justin Byczek) said, “and to put a 60-win team on that’s built such a great sports community, specifically around the downtown area where they can rally around it, was appealing. And then when you pair them with the Boston Celtics, that just fit the criteria of adding another elite matchup if you’re going to turn this into a tripleheader. The Pistons have really bought into this.”

Montez Miller and Tell Us Detroit should be at the top of every Pistons fan’s list to follow this season for her excellent in-game photography that is enriched by some great portraits of fans & celebrities enjoying the games!

PS: If you’re going, make sure to hit Montez up so she can maybe snap a pic of you! She will be there early to catch all of the festivities!
