Not Afraid of Storms by Fire Fighter’s Wife
I’m not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.
-Louisa May Alcott
It’s been too long since I shared a photo from Beth. I just love her work!! See more in her Waterscapes / Nautical gallery on Flickr & safe (but interesting) voyages.

gatHer subject matter is good in some pictures but I am not a fan of most of “ the fire fighter “ shots because they frequently seem so staged. The color saturation in the shots are beautiful but fake. To much photoshoping. Sorry for the negativity but again she has great subjects and frames the shot well, just to much “ alterations.

I understand what you’re saying. I feel Beth makes no bones that she’s attempting to evoke a particular vision with her pictures & is able to do that. I have also spent soooooo much time “processing” photos to make what’s on the screen match what I saw IRL that I understand there’s a lot more manipulated photos than most realize

Wow – that’s a dramatic shot! I’d be pretty scared to be sailing away and see that flash of lightning. My grandmother grew up on a farm in Canada. While taking her farmer father his mid-day meal on a hot Summer day, a storm blew up and she ran to meet him so she could get home before she got soaked. Walking home, she saw the neighbor out in the field get struck by lightning and died. She was paralyzed with fear every time it stormed and would run around the house sprinkling holy water. I also do not like storms and I worry since climate change is giving us more volatile storms on steroids.

Yes – I can’t blame her for being scared the rest of her life. I saw a video recently of two people walking in the rain, struck by lightning and hey landed on the ground.
