  1. They were suppose to open between St. Ignace and Mackinaw Island today and now I know they will NEVER be able to open the straits till July………

  2. As a resident of the Mackinac Straits area, I am amused at the photo of the so called “ice wave”, ETC.. If this B.S. story was snow, it would be a blizzard! The Straits has been totally open to freighter traffic since the large ice fields dissapated about two weeks ago. The photo you were looking at in this story was of a large portion of a glacial wall that broke off a couple of years ago. These large ice formations are commonly known as “icebergs” and occur near the artic area, NOT on the Great Lakes! This same picture appears in many stories like this one to see just how gullable people are. Nice try partner, but none of this story is true whatsoever. Sorry about that. By the way, you would be surprised at how many Michigan residents actually thought that this was a “true story” and drove all the way up here to see “nothing”. It must have cost a fortune for gasoline, but hope they got a good laugh, I know we did. J. Bishop, St. Ignace, MI

  3. Note to “Julie” in response to her comments. Julie, the Straits are open and Mackinac Island can be reached by Ferry Boat but on a limited basis until the tourist season gets back into full swing. Most all Ferry boats will be in operation by the first week in May. Just call ahead. An if you believed the story about the “ice” thing, then don’t forget to bring a sky hook with you and if you go to the island, they have a teriffic “snipe hunt” too. Have a great day.

  4. Wow……..
    i live in St. Ignace.
I was amazed to see some sort of glacial apparition obviously plastered on to a picture of the bridge.
It doesn’t even look “slightly” realistic.
I think that must be a picture of a one of those trolls playin “neath the bridge” again. LOL.
