Found in Kerrytown … and Ann Arbor

Untitled, photo by jenny murray.

Jenny writes: Of the many delightful things at ‘Found’ in Kerrytown, my favorite by far is this bowl of old typewriter keys. I could’ve taken hundreds of shots of this bowl… Oh wait, I did. It’s true, she did.

You can learn more about FOUND (and Kerrytown in Ann Arbor) at the Found Gallery web page at Kerrytown.

…and speaking of “found” (and Ann Arbor), Ann Arbor-based Found Magazine offers a wealth of found fun. In addition to the magazine, they also have books and post daily finds from all over the world. Here’s a found photo of a Detroit Couple.

Three Faces of the Barton Dam

Barton Dam (Photomatix HDR), photo by jhoweaa.

The photographer has posted three versions of this photo of the Barton Dam in Ann Arbor and is interested in hearing which of the three folks prefer. They also write “I really like this dam. It was designed by University of Michigan Dean of Architecture Emil Lorch and built in 1912” and provide a link to this great historical photo of the Barton Dam being built.

Here are the other two images (original and normal HDR):

The photographer writes Ann Arbor has been hit by several days worth of freezing rain. Nearly 1/4 inch of ice has accumulated on the trees, creating a surrealistic winter effect.

Here are a whole bunch more photos of Michigan’s January 2007 ice storm and you can read more about the impact in Winter hits home, with a vengeance in the Detroit News.

I didn’t say anything about the last photo I blogged from this photographer, and though I feel that I should say something about this one, all I can come up with is: “Check out all Sam’s photos because he has some amazing shots from all over the world.”

University of Michigan fans, get ready for the Rose Bowl

Universal Studios Hollywood is promoting their December 30th “Wolverine Day” with a Wolverine Fan Photo. They will be featuring a photo every day from December 20th to 30th at UniversalStudiosHollywood.com/michigan/. You can get all the details there and email your photos to rosebowl@nbcuni.com. They also have special ticket deals available for Rose Bowl bound UM fans. I can’t figure out exactly what you’ll win, but maybe the knowledge that a lot of USC Trojan fans will see your picture is considered enough.

People who are paying attention will notice that the photographer had another photo posted recently. In my defense, I can say without any doubt that she has the best photos of University of Michigan Wolverine fans, hands down.

Michigan Stadium is Empty Today

There will be a ton of stuff all over the place about UM coach Bo Schembechler. I don’t really have anything to add except that he was an illustration of what a person can accomplish if they keep working hard for what they believe in every day, for all their life.

This photo is part of a great set of photos from the 2003 Michigan v. OSU game. Michigan, led by Edwards and Chris Perry, beat the Buckeyes 35-21 and propelled Michigan to the Rose Bowl.

2006 is shaping up to be even bigger as the #2 Wolverines will travel to Columbus to face the #1 Buckeyes. Over on Absolute Michigan we have put together a massive University of Michigan Wolverines vs. Ohio State Buckeyes Rivalry Page which is packed with history, links, photos, video of this 100+ year old football feud that we think might be the single best page we’ve ever made.

One thing is for sure: Next Saturday, there’s going to be crying in Columbus!
