mLive reports that with a month remaining, 2025 is already the third consecutive year of record-setting cougar sightings:
The state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed there have been 26 confirmed cougar sightings in Michigan so far this year, surpassing last year’s record by three … In a unique data point, those 26 cougar sightings this year in the U.P. added up to 27 animals because a pair of cougar cubs were spotted at the same time March 6 in Ontonagon County.

Wow – this is impressive! I guess they are hiding from the big snowfall and blizzard right now. The cougar kitten is sweet.

I saw one in Montcalm County on the Heartland Trail in May. Reported it to the Friends of the Heartland Trail and they said they did not see additional sightings after that. Here is my review on TrailLink – https://www.traillink.com/trail/fred-meijer-heartland-trail.

Yes, it was scary, but I was far enough away to get away fast. There is a creek valley there with woods I think the cougar travels on. Cougars are pretty secretive in the LP.
