Michigan Deer Hunting Season opens Saturday

Opening Day of Bow Season… by Kevin Povenz

Opening Day is Michigan’s largest unofficial holiday, generating a big chunk of the $2.3 billion dollars that hunting in Michigan brings in according to Pure Michigan. UpNorth Live shares that the 2025 Michigan deer hunting season starts tomorrow (Saturday, November 15) and runs through the 30th. They highlight the DNR’s Hunters Feeding Michigan program that lets hunters to donate deer to food pantries. Collection events happen November 21-23 and January 3-4. 1. I was at Lake Erie Metropark today, hoping to catch a glimpse of a doe and fawn, albeit a big fawn as late as it is in the year, but saw nothing but an egret and heron – the marshes are horribly dry there. I only saw a few deer this year. I am sad for the deer that will lose their lives the next two weeks for firearms deer hunting season, even though I hear there is an over-abundance of deer and even though contributing venison to food pantries is an excellent idea. Kevin captured this “shy boy” peering through the wildflowers perfectly.
