St. Joseph's North Pier Lights from Tiscornia Beach in early May of 2006.

Travel Michigan links to St. Joseph Old Main Lighthouse at the Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy (which links in turn to this Lighthouses of the Western Great Lakes from Terry Pepper).

I hope everyone gets a chance to get out and experience some of this great state (or wherever you find yourself) this Memorial Day Weekend.

  2. The State of Michigan has a page called Michigan in stamps that has a picture of the stamp. It was one of 5 commemorative stamps re-released in 1995. (They held an event in Alpena and I happened to be there).

In 1990, the U.S. Post Offices issued 5 lighthouse stamps to commemorate the bicentennial of America’s lighthouses. They proved to be the best selling stamps of the year. Now, by popular denand in 1995, the Postal Service will issue a continuation of that series with 5 new commemorative stamps by the same artist, Howard Koslow, featuring an historic lighthouse from each of the 5 Great Lakes. The first day of issue is scheduled for June 17th in Cheboygan, Michigan aboard the Coast Guard icebreaker, Mackinaw, and will include representatives from the U.S. Postal Service, the Coast Guard, the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association, and the stamps’ sponsoring organization, The Lighthouse Preservation Society.

  3. I grew up here, I body boarded in this area when I was younger, watched my brother do all kinds of cool tricks, skinny dipped off the pier and had fires on the coast, thanks for the memories.
